JONATHAN YELLEN
– RISING STAR AWARD –

JONATHAN YELLEN

Jonathan Yellen is a senior at the NYC Lab School for Collaborative Studies. He will be graduating this coming June, and going to college. Jonathan is the second baseman of his high school baseball team, founded and is a co-editor of his school’s newspaper, The Lab Report, and chairs the Future Business Leaders of America club. Jonathan is also a Teaching Assistant at Park Avenue Synagogue’s Hebrew school, and volunteers at its food pantry packing meals for the elderly.

Most importantly, Jonathan raises money and awareness for the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation. When he was 11 years old, he agreed to tell his story and have his picture on a poster to help his mom raise money for Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation.  Since then, he has participated in the NYC Take Steps Walk, each year raising more money and getting more people to participate. He never shies away from talking about his experience because he knows it can help others.

Jonathan was asked to speak at the Gala when he was just 13 years old (he received a standing ovation from 650+ guests), and the following year he was asked to be the Honored Hero at the NYC Talk Steps Walk.

Jonathan has never missed a day of school, baseball practice or anything he has wanted to do because of his Crohn’s; he won’t let it keep him down, no matter how bad it gets for him. Jonathan continues to raise money and awareness, doing whatever he can, for the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation.
